DEER VELVET ANTLER DIETARY SUPPLEMENT

Whether velvet antler consumption actually results in longer life is not known, as no scientific studies have taken place. The Research

Chinese researchers, Wang Benxiang et al have extensively studied this mechanism. They have shown that hypoxanthine is the active ingredient from deer velvet antler which acts on monoamine oxidase B. Hypoxanthine has been purified after water alcohol and butanol extractions.

The experimental system used by Dr Wang and his colleagues was a comparison between a strain of senescence advanced mice and normal mice.

Wang et al found that deer velvet antler extract could increase plasma testosterone in male mice, decrease the content of malondialdehyde in the liver and brain, increase liver protein content, increase liver superoxide dismutase activity and decrease monoamine oxidase activity in liver and brain.

In addition they showed that deer velvet antler extract could increase RNA polymerase II activity, thereby explaining part of the effect on protein synthesis.

Conclusions On Anti-Aging

The deer velvet antler extracts significantly altered the metabolism of the senescence-advanced mice, but not the control normal mice.

This is positive evidence for a measurable 'restorative function' or 'anti-aging' effect for deer velvet antler.
